Just like every year, we headed to the renowned Berlin VENUS Erotic Festival. This year marked the 23rd edition, and just like before, it was held at the Messe (exhibition center). Was this year’s 4-day event any different from previous ones—for example, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, … ?
Did it manage to take a step forward, or is it just another lineup of porn stars, a few toys, … (which, by the way, isn’t a bad thing either)? We’ll try to convey that to you in this report.
Friday and Saturday
Unlike previous years, we arrived on Friday and Saturday (i.e., the middle days). Saturday is usually considered the busiest day for visitors, which was quite a challenge for us, since we don’t like crowds (and our stance on them was definitely confirmed).

Friday was busier than we remembered from before, but Saturday… that was really something else. Individual booths were blasting music from their sound systems, speakers were announcing strip shows and autograph sessions with porn stars at the various stages, and there was almost nowhere to squeeze through the crowds. But it had a certain charm...
They’re not shy!
Because, in our experience, the people arriving on Saturday are noticeably more open-minded… And by that openness, I mean their attitude toward clothing (or rather, the lack thereof) and sexuality. So we saw more of a dominatrix with a slave in latex, a nudist here, a married couple there where she was topless. And there was plenty to feast your eyes on.
It’s a rule of thumb for me that female visitors are often prettier than most of the actresses on set.
But this time, I was blown away by the girls from the Little Caprice team (and her as well)—I had to pay tribute to them, because I’ve never seen such sexy, beautiful, young, and tasteful actresses at the festival before..
In terms of layout and halls, the festival followed tradition—a large hall with toys and porn producers, a second hall with actresses and live chats, and strip shows, another hall with the main stage and sexy lingerie, and, new this year, a hall dedicated solely to autograph sessions with world-famous live chat stars.

The main stars of the fetish scene were the incredible FetishMedusa (check out her mind-boggling curves wrapped in latex) and the blonde beast aka Calea Toxic. During and outside of the performance, she got sub/a> into a latex cube (vacuum cube) and left him immobilized in it for quite a while.
That setup is really interesting; we’ve wanted to test a vacuum BDSM bed for years, but the cube has its own appeal too. And apparently it’s quite compact—it’s “just” a latex cube-shaped bag with a hollow plastic tube frame inside. Add a regular household vacuum cleaner to that… and you’re trapped!

Live torment of subs
Compared to previous years, the fetish zone featured several atypical performances. We felt a strong emphasis on BDSM throughout the entire erotic festival (not just in the fetish zone) – dildos of all sizes, steel and silicone chastity belts, various handcuffs, rough whips and canes, … deprivation masks, hoods for dog play, …—even at, let’s say, more delicate brands and sex shops like Eis.
We were particularly intrigued by the BDSM harness for a massage head, which is used to firmly and precisely secure a powerful massage head to the lap of the tormented partner. In other words, multiple forced orgasms guaranteed—for that, you’ll need a sturdy gag, or a soundproof basement, otherwise the SWAT team will come for you.
We were also intrigued by the rainbow-colored and shiny Foguelina harnesses, which seem perfect for some wild swingers dance party. Could this be inspiration for an outfit at the famous Prague swingers event Milk&Honey?

New sex toys at the festival
Among the toys, the “novelty” this time was Mystim Opus E, or an artificial vagina with electrostimulation
(I’m looking forward to a review soon). This model was exclusive to VENUS, because the toy’s opening realistically mimicked the vagina of porn star Micy Shafer, who is incredibly popular in Germany.
Mystim also had its new anal beads/chain here, but we didn’t see anything revolutionary about them. Just black silicone beads of various widths on a sturdier rod, also made of silicone. There’s not much to get creative with there… Yeah, if there were even more beads inside, like Venus beads (like the Fun Factory B-Balls Uno and Duo that we tested), that would be something else.
The German copycat offensive
The German brand Satisfyer (aka the universe’s top copycat) had a downright absurd selection of toys here. If you have even a basic understanding of these products, you’d find something similar in all of their devices.
Copied (and also patented, so actionable) Womanizers are already familiar to us, but the vibrators from the Fun G series by Fun Factory, as well as everything else… it was just too much for us.
But it will find its fans; they have solid advertising both at the festival and in the German media, and the prices are ridiculously low. Satisfyer is simply going to crush the competition again, even though it doesn’t really deserve it in our opinion, because it brings nothing new—it just blatantly copies.

Design from the North
The Swedish design brand LELO has brought a new generation of their “pulsating vacuum clitoral stimulator” (aka their version of the Womanizer) Sona 2. It looks almost exactly like the first generation, but it has slightly different modes and a softer, differently shaped head. We actually criticized the Sona quite a bit for this, because it was quite firm and didn’t fit well against our tester’s clitoris… So there was definitely room for improvement.
We didn’t see much else new on the VENUS. More piles of unbelievable life-size sex dolls (including male dolls with permanently erect penises), vibrators in 110 and 1,000 other variations… But nothing so amazing that we’d want to write about it.
How do we rate this year’s VENUS?
Last time we were slightly bored by it; it was just the same thing again, only with another number in the title. But this year, it’s as if the Berlin sex festival has found a new lease on life. The live-chat girls probably helped a lot (they were even filming during the fair itself—including for Stripchat VR), along with more smaller performances and the expansion of the fetish zone to two full floors (previously it was only the ground floor). Overall, we really enjoyed the fair—interesting events every day, lots of live strip shows… it made sense, even though it was more of an evolution than a revolution.
I would recommend that everyone visit Berlin’s VENUS at least once. We’ve already booked a hotel for the upcoming 24th edition (October 22–25, 2020)—will you be there too?
