We were getting a little fed up with having so many toys stored in shoe boxes. It’s a bit “undignified” (we know some people don’t mind) when the toys were worth several thousand and now they’re stored so haphazardly.
We had three options:
- Leave it as is
- Buy a ready-made toy box
- Make our own
Guess which option we went with 🙂
How to make a sex toy box – DIY
Supplies for making the box
For a nice toy box, you’ll need:
- A cardboard box of the right size
- Self-adhesive wallpaper
- Sharp scissors (small surgical or cosmetic scissors)
- A utility knife
Outer Side
We’ll start with the outer side, because it should have perfectly clean corners – we’ll achieve this by folding the excess wallpaper over the corners. On the inside of the box, we simply tape over this first layer. This not only ensures that the box will have clean, taped corners, but it will also be reinforced overall by several layers of wallpaper.
- Lay out the wallpaper on a flat surface (I recommend a swept-clean linoleum floor—on carpet, the excess sticky wallpaper would pick up all the dust and hair, which we don’t want).
- Place the open box on top of it so that there is at least 1 cm of overlap on all sides (for folding).
- On one side, peel back the wax paper about 4 cm.
- Place the edge of the box so that 1 cm remains free.
- Stick the excess edge onto the box.
- Flip the entire assembly (box and wallpaper).
- Slowly peel back the wax paper while simultaneously smoothing the applied wallpaper with a cloth to prevent bubbles from forming. If bubbles do form and the wallpaper cannot be peeled back, gently pierce them with a pin and smooth them out.
- When peeling back the wallpaper due to its large width , start from the edges – peel back the left edge a little, smooth it out, then the right edge, and repeat this process over and over.
- The most problematic shapes used on boxes are undoubtedly rounded edges – we use them on the lid to make it easier to open. These rounded edges can be covered perfectly with a little trick using “rays.” Cut the excess wallpaper at the rounded edge into rays (strips) and glue them on one by one. It is important to ensure that the strips are wide enough depending on how rounded the edge is. The rounder it is, the narrower the strips must be for a smooth edge – and vice versa. Always glue the strips directly against the edge – by doing this for all strips, you will replicate the rounded edge.
- Now you know everything you need to cover the entire box – see the pictures.
- If your back isn’t already killing you from hunching over the box, you can move on to the inside.
Inside
The inside of the adult toy box is simpler. Using the same procedure as above , cover the surface of the box with wallpaper to hide the unsightly creases from pasting the outside. Just as before, proceed slowly and smooth out the glued wallpaper with a cloth.
On the inside, don’t fold anything over the edge—here, you just need to cut around the entire perimeter of the box with scissors. Here’s a tip for you: When cutting, keep the newly glued wallpaper on the bottom so you can see how much is left over. Don’t cut straight with the scissors, but try to tilt them slightly so that the cut wallpaper doesn’t extend beyond the edge of the box.
Otherwise, you’d end up complaining about the excess of about 1–2 mm, which would constantly peel off while using the box.
If you’ve trimmed all the edges and have a more complex box with reinforced sides and a lid, there are two things left to do: 1) you need to cut out the “flaps” on the sides so the box can close, 2) cut out the holes for securing the sides.

Then all you have to do is run your fingers along the edge of the box to glue down the excess edges that didn’t turn out quite right. There you go! We’re done. All that’s left is to assemble the box and fill it with toys.
