Erotic massage candles aren’t very well known in the Czech Republic, which is a real shame. We had our first experience about 7 years ago with a massage candle from Fun Factory (Allume Moi), but after that, they disappeared from the market. That is, until new models appeared from other brands—LELO, 50 Shades, and Swede. And we just received the latter from Slon for a new review.
If you’re not familiar with massage candles in general, you’re sure to love them—at first glance, they look like classic wax candles. But as soon as you touch the “wax,” you’ll realize something is different. It’s not solid paraffin wax, but solidified massage oil, which melts easily. Best when warmed by a lit wick—thanks to this, within a few minutes you’ll have gently warm oil with which you can immediately give your partner a lovely massage.

And you don’t have to stop at a back massage… even the breasts love circular touches and the care of warmed oil. Don’t forget gentle circular motions on the hips, and of course, you must also devote your care to the sensitive buttocks and crotch. Your will love this pampering immensely.

Hot, yet not painfully scorching
Unlike BDSM candles (which are meant to torment your partner, not pamper them), these massage candles have a lower temperature, so you can drip them directly onto the body to add an extra twist to your new massage. Even more interesting is combining hot wax and ice cubes.
Such games are called “temperature play”, or playing with temperature. You can create an even more intense experience (just like with a classic massage or sex) by blindfolding your partner—with a scarf, shawl, or even a mask… it all depends on what you have at home or your naughty desires.

Swede massage candle under the microscope
So far, we’ve introduced you to erotic massage with a candle, but we haven’t focused on the Swede candle itself. At first glance, it doesn’t look cheap—it comes in a transparent plastic container, but the silver, slanted lid gives it a certain flair.
“Specifically, we have the red Swede Teasing candle with the scent of vanilla, chili, and ylang-ylang. Its composition is: a blend of oils—soybean, avocado, jojoba, and coconut—beeswax, shea butter, vitamin E, and finally vanilla perfume.”
The downside of this candle (compared to the others we tried) is that the oil hardens quickly after being dripped onto the body. The others turned into classic oil that spread beautifully over the warmed body, but Swede hardened slightly and we had to apply a bit of pressure—it was still possible to massage, but it dampened my enthusiasm as a masseur a bit.
A candle flame that can be a nuisance
The second thing I’d point out isn’t just a problem with Swede candles, but with all the others as well. To get enough melted oil, you have to light the candle a little before the actual play begins. Ideally, this shouldn’t be noticed by the person being massaged. If you light it once they’re already lying comfortably (ideally with a blindfold on), you’ll have to wait a bit and gently tend to your partner.
It’s ideal as foreplay, but if you’re impatient and pour oil from a still-burning candle, tilting it will cause the candle’s flame to lightly singe the edge of the container and slightly blacken the nearby oil. So it gets a little dirty, and naturally, this “smudge” will transfer to the person being massaged. Unfortunately, you have to take this into account and prepare the candle early enough, or melt the oil and extinguish the candle. And if that’s not enough, light it again, and so on, and so on, and so on…
“The manufacturer itself lists the recommended time for melting the oil as 15–20 minutes, so it’s best to just plan for that and have the candle ready before the massage. It can also serve as a nice decorative candle to set the mood for intimate moments before sex—the massage here is just a bonus :)”
On the other hand, I have to appreciate that at Swede, someone thought about the candle’s use and gave it a slender shape with a slight taper on one side—this makes it much easier to dispense the oil, which flows beautifully onto the body through this “spout.”
With a price tag that reflects
Another integral part of these candles is their “fragrance”—they usually get fanciful and whimsical names meant to entice you into buying them. With the more expensive ones, typically from the Swedish brand LELO, those provocative names are definitely justified = their scents are captivating, seductive, and definitely intense.
With the Swede, I found that intensity a bit lacking—yes, it smells nice, but the scent is rather subtle and meant to set the mood; you certainly can’t wrap yourself in it like a coat and forget the whole world. But this may be a purely subjective impression, so it’s up to each person to decide—it definitely has a scent and can be used for massage, but (likely due to the lower price) it’s not my top pick on the market. However, thanks to its price, it will find many fans, as competing products often cost twice as much.
